ADVISORY FOR THURSDAY @ 11:30AM:
Congresswoman Summer Lee to Present $500,000 Check to Westmoreland County to Repair the 4th Street Bridge in North Irwin
Pittsburgh, Pa. — On Thursday, March 28th at 11:30AM, Rep. Summer Lee will present a $500,000 check to Westmoreland County to repair the 4th Street Bridge in North Irwin – which has been closed to traffic and waiting repair for a decade.
This $500,000 is one of 14 projects for which Rep. Lee has secured Community Project Funding in the FY24 Federal Budget. This project will reconnect the town with the main road that has been divided by the railroad for over 100 years–and closed to traffic since 2014. Funding through this request will expedite the project’s execution by adding to funds previously secured through the Southwest Pennsylvania Commission (SPC) Transportation Improvement Plan (TIP)
- Who: Congresswoman Summer Lee, Westmoreland County Commissioners, Elected Officials from North Irwin Borough
- What: Congresswoman Lee will present a “big check” to Westmoreland County officials celebrating the $500,000 Lee delivered to repair the 4th Street Bridge in Irwin as part of the FY2024 budget that Biden signed into law about a month ago. With the funding, Westmoreland County will replace a roadway bridge that runs over the Norfolk Southern Railway in Irwin – reconnect the town with the main road that has been divided by the railroad for over 100 years and closed to traffic since 2014. Funding through this request will expedited project execution by adding to funds previously secured through the Southwest Pennsylvania Commission (SPC) Transportation Improvement Plan (TIP) Disclosure letter: HERE

- Where: corner of 4th Street and Foster Avenue, North Irwin PA 15642
- Why: Big Check presentation To Westmoreland County for $500,000 for 4th Street Bridge replacement – fills the funding gap needed by Westmoreland County
Background:
In December, Rep. Lee hosted a roundtable with Community Project Funding recipients to highlight the need to pass a federal budget, and what these vital investments would do for their organizations and for the community.
After Congressional Republicans threatened another government shutdown, President Biden was finally able to sign the bipartisan negotiated partial FY24 budget last week. Included in the budget was $12 million for Rep. Lee’s district that will go toward organizations and projects to fight hunger, homelessness and blight, as well as wraparound services, infrastructure improvements and education against antisemitism and discrimination.
