Congresswoman Summer Lee Attends Allies for Health + Wellbeing Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and East Allegheny Meals-on-Wheels 50th Anniversary Luncheon
PITTSBURGH, PA – June 20, 2024 – Today, Congresswoman Summer Lee attended the Allies for Health + Wellbeing Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and the East Allegheny Meals on Wheels 50th Anniversary Luncheon, underscoring her commitment to health and community services in the district (PA-12).
At 11:00 AM, Congresswoman Lee joined Allies for Health + Wellbeing in celebrating the expansion of their services with the opening of a new pharmacy at their office located at 5913 Penn Ave., in the East Liberty neighborhood of Pittsburgh. The event marked a significant milestone for Allies for Health + Wellbeing, formerly known as the Pittsburgh AIDS Task Force, the oldest and largest HIV service organization in southwestern Pennsylvania. Allies provides comprehensive health services including HIV specialty care, primary care, gender-affirming care, gynecological care, STI testing and treatment, and supportive human services such as case management and a food pantry.
Congresswoman Summer Lee commented, “The opening of this pharmacy is a testament to the unwavering commitment of Allies to provide comprehensive, inclusive, and compassionate care to our community. By expanding these essential services, they are not only improving health outcomes but also reaffirming their dedication to supporting individuals and families in East Liberty and beyond. This pharmacy will be a vital resource, ensuring that everyone has access to the medications and care they need to live healthy, fulfilling lives.”

The event was also attended by Sean DeYoung, CEO of Allies for Health + Wellbeing, State Senator Lindsay Williams, Twanda Carlisle from State Senator Jay Costa’s office, and representatives from the East Liberty Chamber of Commerce and the Three Rivers Business Alliance.
Following the ribbon cutting, Congresswoman Lee attended the East Allegheny Meals-on-Wheels 50th Anniversary Luncheon at Linway U. Presbyterian Church’s Social Hall in North Versailles. At the luncheon, Congresswoman Lee presented a proclamation to recognize the invaluable contributions of Meals on Wheels to the community and to advocate for the continued support of this critical program.
“Meals on Wheels provides an essential service, offering nutritious meals and a friendly visit to our seniors, helping them to remain independent and healthy in their own homes,” said Congresswoman Lee. “Supporting Meals on Wheels is not just about providing food; it’s about showing our commitment to caring for our community members with dignity and compassion. Meals on Wheels can serve a senior for an entire year for roughly the same cost as a day in the hospital or ten days in a nursing home. This alone underscores the incredible value and importance of supporting such programs.”
