Congresswoman Summer Lee Joins Beverly’s PGH “Babies in the Burgh” Mobile Unit  in North Huntingdon to Support Families in Westmoreland County

North Huntingdon, PA – October 8, 2024 — Congresswoman Summer Lee joined Beverly’s PGH today at the Circleville Fire Department in North Huntingdon to highlight the important work being done by their “Babies in the Burgh” Mobile Unit. The event, held from 11:15 AM to 12:15 PM, brought together local families to receive support from Pennsylvania’s first mobile infant formula bank. Through the initiative, Beverly’s is empowering families to meet their child’s basic needs by providing education and critical infant care supplies.

The “Babies in the Burgh” Mobile Unit serves as a lifeline for many families, offering a range of resources including formula, bottles, breastfeeding supplies, clothing, and other essential items—all at no cost. The mobile unit’s mission is to meet families where they are, addressing social determinants of health (SDoH) by ensuring every child in the community has access to the support they need to thrive.

Congresswoman Summer Lee praised the organization’s commitment to children and families, highlighting the power of community-led solutions. “Today’s event was about showing up for the families of Westmoreland County and celebrating the incredible work that Beverly’s PGH does every day,” said Congresswoman Lee. “When we support organizations like Beverly’s, we’re not just providing essential supplies; we’re empowering parents to make informed decisions for their children and building a stronger community. Every child in PA-12 deserves to grow up feeling safe, supported, and celebrated. Beverly’s reminds us that by addressing basic needs, we lay the foundation for every family to thrive.”

Founded in 2011 by Megs Yunn, Beverly’s PGH started as a response to a simple, yet powerful, story: a young girl named Beverly, who had never experienced the joy of a birthday celebration. Today, the nonprofit’s three divisions—Birthdays, Babies, and Basics—serve thousands of families across the region, providing support that goes beyond gifts to uplift the entire community.

At the event, families were able to connect directly with Beverly’s team to receive resources and build relationships, reinforcing the message that Beverly’s and Congresswoman Lee’s office are partners in promoting the health, safety, and well-being of every child in the district. As part of ongoing efforts to create equitable access to resources, the congresswoman continues to advocate for policies and programs that address the root causes of health disparities and support local solutions that prioritize families.

Since taking office in January 2023, Lee, who serves on the House Oversight Committee and Space, Science and Technology Committee, has delivered historic levels of federal investment totaling over $2 Billion brought back to Western PA, including over $580 million for infrastructure, over $110 million for affordable transit, over $500 million to keep clean energy manufacturing at home in Pennsylvania, and over $55 million on clean energy efforts in and around schools to help keep our kids and communities safe. These investments will help improve Western Pennsylvania’s infrastructure and transit, ensure cleaner air and drinking water, lower housing costs, fund research institutions, fuel clean manufacturing, fund STEM innovation and entrepreneurship, boost workforce development, and create thousands of good paying union jobs.  Lee and her team have also delivered casework and constituent services to over 2,700 constituents with issues ranging from helping our seniors and disabled community access Medicare and social security to helping folks secure housing and helping families with immigration support and passports.
