Rep. Lee Highlights How Ridiculous It Is for Oversight GOP to Hold a Hearing on Incompetence When It’s Woven Into Project 2025
Washington, D.C. – Today, Rep. Summer Lee (D-PA) delivered sharp remarks at a House Oversight Committee hearing, calling out the hypocrisy of Republicans holding a hearing on government incompetence while their own agenda, Project 2025, seeks to dismantle the very systems keeping our government functioning.
Rep. Lee opened her remarks by acknowledging the absurdity of the GOP’s critique, saying:
“The same Congress that can’t pass rule votes and can’t pass a government funding bill is coming after an administration that passed historic legislation—CHIPS, the Inflation Reduction Act, and the infrastructure bill.”
She then made it clear who really keeps the government afloat:
“Let’s be real—the people who are actually keeping things functioning are not Members of Congress or even the President, but our hardworking federal workforce. These career professionals ensure our air is clean, our medications are safe, Social Security checks get out on time, and our veterans live with dignity.”
Rep. Lee continued by explaining the critical difference between career civil servants and the partisan agenda behind Project 2025:
“These professionals aren’t partisan shills. They are experts with the experience and knowledge needed to serve the American people effectively. Yet Project 2025, driven by Trump and the GOP, seeks to replace them with corporate loyalists whose only qualification is loyalty to Donald Trump.”
Rep. Lee went on to emphasize the intentional nature of the dysfunction the GOP is creating:
“Let’s be clear—dismantling our federal agencies isn’t incompetence, it’s intentional. They’re purposefully creating dysfunction, shifting the balance of power to one man: Donald Trump.”
