Rep. Summer Lee Responds to Trump’s Memo Pausing Federal Grants and Loans
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman Summer Lee (PA-12) released the following statement in response to the Trump administration’s decision to pause federal grants and loans:
“The Trump administration’s decision to pause all federal grants and loans is an extraordinary overreach that will likely cut off essential funding for health care, education, housing, and local businesses. It affects institutions and individuals alike–puts almost everything at risk.
“Trump’s executive order claims to be “ending wokeness” but in the process is robbing people of their ability to afford groceries, education, health care, and housing. Everyone from students to seniors, small business owners to construction workers, that rely on federal funding are now facing uncertainty about if they will have a job or be able to go to school or even to have their next meal.
“While we don’t know the full extent of the damage, we do know this: 42 million Americans rely on SNAP, 72 million individuals are enrolled in Medicaid, 2.4 million seniors depend on meals on wheels, 5 million households rely on rental assistance, and 6.6 million low-income women and children rely on WIC. They all stand at risk of losing access to the critical support they need.
The President, who is supposed to be a guiding force in times of crisis, has instead repeatedly created a tidal wave of uncertainty. This reckless instability is all happening because of the administration’s culture war-driven agenda. We demand that the Trump Administration uphold the law and the Constitution and ensure all federal resources are delivered in accordance with the laws Congress passed.”
