Summer Lee, PA Delegation Announce $143 Million Infrastructure Grant to Immediately Begin Building Passenger Rail Connecting Pittsburgh and Harrisburg
Lee, Deluzio have pushed to build passenger rail connecting Western PA with the rest of the commonwealth, Eastern Corridor
WASHINGTON, DC – Pennsylvania Congresswoman Summer Lee today announced a $143 million infrastructure grant from the Federal Railroad Association (FRA) to immediately begin building a passenger rail between Pittsburgh and Harrisburg, connecting Western Pennsylvania directly with the Capitol and making passenger rail connection with Philadelphia and the eastern corridor dramatically more efficient while boosting Western PA’s economy and creating thousands of new good paying union jobs.
“For Pennsylvanians and communities across the eastern corridor, passenger rail has helped connect our communities and ensure people can visit their families, access jobs, and explore all that our Commonwealth has to offer. But for far too long, passenger rail in Pittsburgh has remained woefully inadequate and left our communities and economy disconnected” said Rep. Summer Lee (PA-12). “After pushing the Department of Transportation for infrastructure investment to connect our communities within my district and across the region, I am so excited to help deliver this $143 million grant to immediately begin building a passenger rail to finally ensure there’s frequent and reliable service connecting Pittsburgh with Harrisburg, Philadelphia, and Chicago by rail. This service will go a long way to ensure Pittsburgh is connected to the rest of Pennsylvania and the entire eastern corridor–bringing new life to our cities and creating hundreds of good-paying, union jobs along the way.”
Since taking office in January, Lee, who serves on the House Oversight Committee and Space, Science and Technology Committee, has delivered historic levels of federal investment totaling over $870 million brought back to Western PA, including over $200 million for infrastructure, over $50 million for affordable transit, and over $500 million to keep clean energy manufacturing at home in Pennsylvania. These investments will help improve Western Pennsylvania’s infrastructure and transit, ensure cleaner air and drinking water, lower housing costs, fund research institutions, fuel clean manufacturing, fund STEM innovation and entrepreneurship, boost workforce development, and create thousands of good paying union jobs. Lee and her team have also delivered casework and constituent services to over 1,380 constituents with issues ranging from helping our seniors and disabled community access Medicare and social security to helping folks secure housing and helping families with immigration support and passports.
