Service Academy Nominations

The honor of attending a service academy comes with the obligation and commitment to serve in the military for a minimum of five years upon graduation. Congresswoman Lee has the honor of nominating a select few students to four of the five prestigious service academies.

Four of the five U.S. service Academies: U.S. Military Academy (USMA), West Point, NY; the U.S. Naval Academy (USNA), Annapolis, MD; the U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA), Colorado Springs, CO; and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA), Kings Point, NY. The only academy who does not require a congressional appointment is the Coast Guard Academy.

To begin the nomination process, you should first apply directly to the service academy you wish to attend. You should then apply for all the nominations that you may be eligible for including, but not limited to, your elected representatives in Congress (check your member of Congress here), your two Senators, and the Vice President of the United States.

To be considered for a congressional nomination from Congresswoman Lee, you must complete the following by 5:00 p.m. (EST) on September 27, 2024.

  1. Email an essay about your desire to attend an Academy (minimum of 500 words) to @PA12SAN@mail.house.gov.
  2. Email an appropriate recent photograph of yourself.
  3. Include in the email an official transcript for any high schools, junior colleges, and colleges you have attended. All high school transcripts must include your final junior year grades. Note: if your school does not issue official transcripts to the students, your school may submit them directly to my office at @PA12SAN@mail.house.gov.
  4. Make sure to include official SAT or ACT scores. If you need our SAT FSA or ACT Score Code please contact the office.
  5. Lastly include three letters of recommendations from individuals who know you well. One teacher; none can be from a family member.

All application materials must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. EST on October 27, 2024. Applications received after the deadline will not be considered. If you are unable to have your material uploaded and/or mailed in to our East Liberty Main Office, please contact Tyrell Best-Savage at 412-216-5139 to make alternative arrangements.

Upon successful submission you will receive email confirmation of your application. If you are selected for nomination, you will be notified in December 2024.

The congressional nomination process is very competitive and one that the Service Academy Selection Panel and Congresswoman Lee takes very seriously. Please understand that if you do not receive a nomination from my office, it does not necessarily mean you do not meet academy standards. Rather, it likely reflects the high caliber of candidates who applied for a very limited number of nominations.

All nominations will be submitted by January 31, 2024.
