Congresswoman Summer Lee, Casey, Fetterman, Deluzio Announce $11.29 Million for Allegheny County Airports

(Washington, D.C.) – Today,  U.S. Representatives Summer Lee (D-PA-12) and Chris Deluzio (D-PA-17) and U.S. Senators Bob Casey (D-PA) and John Fetterman (D-PA) are announcing that Pittsburgh International Airport is receiving $6,381,745 in new infrastructure funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) and Allegheny County Airport is receiving $4,909,155. These grants are awards from the Airport Improvement Program (AIP).

“I’m proud to help deliver a combined federal infrastructure investment of over $11 million for Western PA’s Airports, and most importantly our Airport workers who are the true backbone of our transportation network,” said Congresswoman Summer Lee. “This investment will ensure passenger safety, cut down on pollution to clean our air and combat the climate crisis, boost opportunity for workers, and create thousands of good paying union jobs.”

“As Southwestern Pennsylvania’s airports grow to serve this vibrant region, it’s critical that we help them keep passengers and workers safe and meet rising demand,” said Senator Casey. “Improving taxiways and overall safety and reducing emissions will make these two airports safer and more efficient. A safe, effective airport means a better experience for travelers and greater investment in Southwestern Pennsylvania’s economy.”

“I’m very proud that this federal funding is going towards the Pittsburgh International Airport and the County Airport,” said Senator Fetterman. “This funding, combined with additional investments from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, is making sure airports across Pennsylvania can serve our local communities. It’s an honor to join with my colleagues to announce this important funding.”

“I am thrilled to help deliver more than $11 million in federal dollars for our region’s airports, including more than $6 million for Pittsburgh International Airport in my district, that will help improve taxiways, keep workers safer, grow good union jobs, and reduce on-site pollution,” said Rep. Chris Deluzio. “Our airport is an important employer and connects us to the broader economy—and I am proud to bring home these federal investments so the airport can serve our region even better in the years to come.”

The funding for Pittsburgh International Airport will be used to reconfigure existing taxiways as well as reduce emissions. PIT has received a total of $107,715,060 in federal investments since the start of 2021. Allegheny County Airport has received $11,533,997 in the same period of time. Their latest award will be used for safety area improvements.
