Rep. Summer Lee Applauds House Passage of Extension to ACA Tax Credits
WASHINGTON, D.C. — JANUARY 8, 2026 — Today, Congresswoman Summer L. Lee (PA-12) applauded the House passage of H.R. 1834, legislation that would extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits for three years and ensure millions of Americans can maintain their health insurance. The bill, which was forced by House Democrats using a discharge petition, now heads to the Senate.
“It is a relief the bill to restore the ACA tax credits has passed the House, but it never should have come to this. Republicans could have voted to extend these credits in September—which would have avoided a government shutdown—and prevented healthcare premiums from skyrocketing for people in Western Pennsylvania and across the country. We need Medicare for All to ensure no one is forced to ration care any longer. In the meantime, the Senate must now heed the calls of the American people and pass this bill immediately.”
Rep. Lee has been a consistent champion for affordable healthcare and is a strong advocate for Medicare for All.
- In December, Rep Lee participated in an Education and Workforce HELP Subcommittee Democratic shadow hearing titled “Republican Priorities: Billionaire Tax Breaks, Not Health Care for Working Families,” where she called for the urgent extension of Affordable Care Act (ACA) premium tax credits and renewed her push for Medicare for All. Rep. Lee’s constituent, a Pennie recipient, also testified at the hearing.
- In September, she voted against House Republicans’ continuing resolution, which failed to extend ACA tax credits that would have kept healthcare more affordable for thousands of Western Pennsylvania families and millions more across the country.
- Over the summer, Rep. Lee slammed Republicans and the Trump administration for making the largest cuts to Medicaid in history in the so-called One Big Beautiful Bill Act.
