WASHINGTON, DC – SEPTEMBER 2, 2025 — In response to pressure and a letter signed by Congresswoman Summer Lee (PA-12), a member of the House Oversight Committee and Ranking Member of the Federal Law Enforcement Subcommittee, the Committee held a closed-door roundtable today to hear from survivors of the unconscionable exploitation by Jeffrey Epstein, Ghislaine Maxwell, and their co-conspirators. In August, Congresswoman Lee joined Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley’s push in calling for a full Congressional hearing to ensure survivors’ firsthand accounts are heard and continues to support this effort.

“Today we heard from some of the women who survived Epstein’s abuse as young girls. While we cannot share details of the event to protect survivors’ privacy, it is clear the government has failed these survivors and continues to obstruct justice. Once again, the Department of Justice must release the full files and the Oversight Committee must hold an official hearing to uplift and recenter the voices of survivors. It is our responsibility to deliver justice and the peace and healing they deserve. Any enabler or abuser, no matter how wealthy or powerful, must be held to account.”

This latest call to center survivors builds on Rep. Lee’s continued leadership in the House Oversight Committee’s investigation into Epstein and his enablers. In July, Rep. Lee successfully introduced and passed a motion to subpoena the full Epstein files, breaking through partisan gridlock and forcing House Republicans to act after months of inaction. This motion culminated in the formal issuance of a subpoena to the Department of Justice (DOJ), giving the agency 14 days to turn over the full, unredacted Epstein files. Following the DOJ’s release of the first batch of files, Rep. Lee slammed the partial, recycled content that revealed only three percent of new information among the 33,000+ documents.
