Rep. Summer Lee Statement on 7th Commemoration of Pittsburgh Synagogue Shooting

October 27, 2025

PITTSBURGH, PA – October 27, 2025 — Today, Congresswoman Summer L. Lee (PA-12) issued the following statement on the commemoration of the deadliest antisemitic attack in U.S. history on three Pittsburgh Jewish congregations seven years ago:

“Seven years ago, our community was shattered when 11 community members were killed in the horrific shooting targeting the Congregation Dor Hadash, New Light Congregation, and Tree of Life Congregation. On that dreadful day, the nation was reminded of the dangers of hate, antisemitism, and white supremacy.

“We stand with the victims' families, the Jewish community in Western Pennsylvania, and all those affected by this senseless act of violence. We must continue to fight against hatred in all its forms and ensure that every person, regardless of their faith, feels safe in their place of worship and in their communities.

“On this painful day, let us honor the memory of those we lost by doubling down on our efforts to build a world of understanding, respect, and unity.”

In her ongoing commitment to support Pittsburgh Jewish congregations, Congresswoman Summer Lee played a pivotal role in securing significant federal funding for the new Tree of Life campus. Her efforts in Washington resulted in a $1 million allocation specifically for the rebuilding and transformation of the Tree of Life site. Congresswoman Lee also secured $547,000 for extended Support for 10.27 Healing Partnership to respond to and address the ongoing trauma from the mass shooting in the lead-up to and in the aftermath of the trial.

Congresswoman Lee also introduced a resolution recognizing five years since the October 27th attack and delivered a powerful speech on the House floor honoring the victims. In June 2024, Congresswoman Lee attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Tree of Life campus, marking a significant step in transforming the site of the deadliest antisemitic attack in U.S. history into a place of remembrance, community, education, and bridge building.

Congresswoman Summer Lee serves on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform and the Committee on Education and Workforce. Since taking office in January 2023, she has delivered historic levels of federal investment totaling over $2.4 Billion brought back to Western PA, including over $580 million for infrastructure, over $110 million for affordable transit, over $500 million to keep clean energy manufacturing at home in Pennsylvania, and over $55 million on clean energy efforts in and around schools to help keep our kids and communities safe. These investments will help improve Western Pennsylvania’s infrastructure and transit, ensure cleaner air and drinking water, lower housing costs, fund research institutions, fuel clean manufacturing, fund STEM innovation and entrepreneurship, boost workforce development, and create thousands of good paying union jobs.  Lee and her team have also delivered casework and constituent services to over 3,000 constituents with issues ranging from helping our seniors and disabled community access Medicare and social security to helping folks secure housing and helping families with immigration support and passports.
