Rep. Summer Lee Statement on Explosion at U.S. Steel Clairton
PITTSBURGH, PA – AUGUST 11, 2025 — Today, Congresswoman Summer L. Lee (PA-12) issued the following statement in response to the explosion this morning at the U.S. Steel Clairton Coke Works plant in Clairton, Pennsylvania:
“My team and I are aware of the tragic explosion at the U.S. Steel Clairton Coke Works plant. My heart is with the workers, especially those injured or trapped, their families, first responders, USW members, and the entire Clairton community. I am deeply grateful to the emergency personnel, medical teams, and rescue crews who are responding with courage and urgency. My office remains committed to ensuring that every affected worker and family receives the support and resources they need.”
Congresswoman Summer Lee serves on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Accountability and the Committee on Education and Workforce. Since taking office in January 2023, she has delivered historic levels of federal investment totaling over $2.4 Billion brought back to Western PA, including over $580 million for infrastructure, over $110 million for affordable transit, over $500 million to keep clean energy manufacturing at home in Pennsylvania, and over $55 million on clean energy efforts in and around schools to help keep our kids and communities safe.
