Rep. Summer Lee Statement on Republican-induced Government Shutdown
WASHINGTON, DC – October 1, 2025 — Today, Congresswoman Summer L. Lee (PA-12) issued the following statement on the Republican-induced federal government shutdown:
“This Republican-induced government shutdown was preventable. Trump and Republicans slashed Medicaid in the so-called One Big Beautiful Bill Act and refused to extend Affordable Care Act tax credits to keep health insurance more affordable. With their control of the White House, Senate, and House of Representatives, they had the opportunity to mitigate this harm but instead refused to negotiate in good faith and chose to shut down the government. Now, millions of workers will go without pay to keep our country functioning and essential services will be slowed down, if not cut off altogether.
“I remain committed to fighting for working families in Western Pennsylvania and will continue pushing for a funding bill that puts the American people first. My office will remain open and available to support PA-12 during these uncertain times. The people deserve a government that works for them, not against them.”
