Rep. Summer Lee Statement on Vote Against Budget Fueling Republican Healthcare Crisis
WASHINGTON, DC – NOVEMBER 12, 2025 — Today, Congresswoman Summer L. Lee (PA-12) issued the following statement on her vote against the Republican continuing resolution that does nothing to stop healthcare costs from skyrocketing for 24 million Americans.
“After enduring the pain of the longest government shutdown in U.S. history, millions of working Americans are seeing their healthcare premiums skyrocket. This was avoidable. For weeks, House Democrats have pushed Republicans to return to the negotiating table to address this healthcare crisis of their own making and reopen the government so federal workers can receive their paychecks, benefits like SNAP can resume, and programs like Head Start and LIHEAP can continue without disruption. There is nothing in this bill that guarantees healthcare subsidies will be voted on and passed.
“The American people want a government that serves them and a Democratic party that fights for them, especially at a time when we face rising authoritarianism and overburdening costs. I could not in good faith support capitulating to false promises that will hurt people in the long run. We live in the wealthiest country on the planet and should not have to choose between healthcare over any other essential need."
Congresswoman Summer Lee serves on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform and the Committee on Education and Workforce. Since taking office in January 2023, she has delivered historic levels of federal investment totaling over $2.4 Billion brought back to Western PA, including over $580 million for infrastructure, over $110 million for affordable transit, over $500 million to keep clean energy manufacturing at home in Pennsylvania, and over $55 million on clean energy efforts in and around schools to help keep our kids and communities safe. These investments will help improve Western Pennsylvania’s infrastructure and transit, ensure cleaner air and drinking water, lower housing costs, fund research institutions, fuel clean manufacturing, fund STEM innovation and entrepreneurship, boost workforce development, and create thousands of good paying union jobs. Lee and her team have also delivered casework and constituent services to over 3,000 constituents with issues ranging from helping our seniors and disabled community access Medicare and social security to helping folks secure housing and helping families with immigration support and passports.
